Description

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) will be a member of the Mars Veterinary Health Asia (MVHA) leadership team. The incumbent will lead the development and deployment of a medical quality program which ensures delivery of the highest standards of clinical care for MVHA patients in all markets. This will be achieved through a combination of direct and matrix leadership and will be delivered in line with the Mars Five Principles.

The role represents the veterinary medical profession perspective as the voice of veterinary professionals and paraprofessionals during enterprise discussions and decision-making.

The CMO will:

• Lead in accordance with the Mars 5 Principles.

• Lead development and execution of MVHA business’ comprehensive medical vision, including the oversight of medical field operations to ensure veterinary professional engagement, development and delivery of quality care.

• Partner with Asia and Market SLT, lead development and execution of practice objectives, goals, and strategies, including annual planning. Keep key stakeholders informed of key functional priorities and opportunities relevant to enterprise operations.

• Be hands-on and willing to play the role of Director of Veterinary Quality (DVQ) for new Markets to ensure we help them improve their quality of care through clinical guidance, leadership development and operational excellence.

• Provide strategic leadership to ensure quality medicine is delivered in hospitals across all six Domains of Quality through high quality medical and surgical protocols appropriate for each patient and client, comprehensive team training and educational programs, state-of-the-art equipment, drugs, and biologics. Access to care is of high priority and the CMO will lead and drive initiatives to ensure that hospitals focus on capacity as a key driver of access.

• Support quality oversight and partnership with the Commercial team to support selection and sourcing of equipment, drugs and biologics that meet quality and business needs.

• Ensure medical metrics that support quality medicine advancement and business objectives. Drive accountability through field organization for delivery of metrics in partnership with operations team.

• Lead development and implementation of a continuous quality improvement and patient safety program to provide evidence-based medicine and enhance medical outcomes.

• Overseeing clinical research so that MVH Asia is recognized as a beacon of quality and development in clinical knowledge. This will require partnership working with colleagues across Mars Petcare.

• Creating and rolling out Medical and Nursing strategies so that MVH Asia can attract, retain and develop the best-in-class clinicians who wish to have a lifelong career continually improving patient care

• Support the science and research strategy of the business in coordination with the Medical Affairs Science Team in support of specific practice needs and the greater MVH and Petcare science strategies.

• Recognize and promote the vital role of credentialed veterinary technicians, registered veterinary nurses, and veterinary assistants in the delivery of quality veterinary care. Support strategies for recruitment, engagement and retention of these roles and support career pathing and development of growth opportunities.

• In alignment with the global function, lead a medical communication plan to provide thought leadership and actively cultivate relationships with the veterinary profession and Mars Petcare, ensuring that MVHA and its entities have an outstanding reputation in both the veterinary profession and colleges of veterinary medicine as a reference for quality veterinary care. Be a spokesperson for the business on medical matters as needed.

• Play a full and active role in the MVH Chief Medical Officer’s Council and ensure full contribution to MVH and Mars Petcare priorities with a focus on cross-banner collaboration for talent development, best practice sharing and quality improvement.

• The CMO should partner with the Asia President and Market GMs to drive successful business outcomes through the delivery of consistently high-quality medical care, hospital team engagement and advancing relevant innovations in medical care delivery.

• Based on Business need & upon reaching scale, develop and execute medical talent development strategy and leadership succession planning in partnership with P&O. Oversee organizational design of medical function within business to ensure alignment with global medical function, clear accountability and career pathing and succession planning opportunities.

Qualification

• A Veterinarian or Veterinary Specialist holding appropriate current licensure recognized by American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).

• Minimum of 10 years relevant veterinary clinical experience in specialist referral hospital or General Practice (GP) practices at group level.

• Demonstrated knowledge of sound business principles and operational metrics.

• 5 years of multi-unit hospital leadership experience preferred.

• Prior experience with business operations and P&L management.

• Significant experience in Senior Leadership roles, preferably on a Board / Leadership Team.

• Proven ability in influencing and making decisions to ensure increased quality and business outcomes.

• Strong leadership, experience in managing large teams and senior professionals.

• Ability to deal with department escalations and organizational needs independently.

• Effective communicator with ability to present to multiple audiences including external stakeholders.

• Excellent command in verbal and written English language.
