Primary Purpose
The Senior Counsel Global Laboratory Operations & International will be tasked with supporting the global laboratory and international activities of Mars Science and Diagnostics, and will be expected to quickly gain a solid understanding of Mars Science and Diagnostics businesses and operations globally. The Senior Counsel will counsel the COO, Lab operations as well as the VP of Growth and their teams with respect to a wide variety of operational and commercial matters. In doing so, the Senior Counsel will, among other things, advise on all aspects of operational compliance, labor and commercial issues related to our diagnostics laboratories operations, as well as support all international expansion efforts. The Senior Counsel will also negotiate and draft complex commercial agreements, and advise on any requirements for international operations. As part of its role, this attorney will be expected to closely collaborate with other Mars attorneys in the regions where SDx operates, leverage existing Mars best practices, and, to the extent available, seek counsel from Mars’ outside counsel network to ensure consistency across regions and segments. This is a unique role offering the opportunity to help shape the on-the-ground expansion strategy of our international diagnostics footprint.
Job Context
SDx is a division in Mars Petcare. Following the recent acquisitions of Heska and Synlab, and on the heels of the consolidation of other At-Home diagnostic businesses (Wisdom and Whistle) to join Antech, Sound and AIS, the SDx legal function is growing to provide appropriate support the SDx organization and keep up with its growth. SDx is operating in a challenging environment and has a different business model than many other Mars Petcare businesses, given its fairly complex regulatory environment. SDx is going through high-growth and strong international business expansion, fueled through both organic and inorganic growth. The Associate in this role must support the AGC as well as the VP R&D and the GM of At-Home diagnostics.
