Purpose of Job
Mars Petcare’s Science and Diagnostics Division is looking for a corporate affairs leader to help us engage audiences as we transform our veterinary diagnostics business. We are looking for someone who believes, like us, that an enterprise dedicated to world-class science and diagnostics can succeed by discovering and ultimately delivering science, health technology and data-led innovations that drive our purpose to make a better world for pets.
This position oversees and leads external communication, M&A and transformation communications, corporate branding, reputation growth, stakeholder engagement, global and regional crisis and issues management, sustainability communications, media relations and PR, corporate social media/digital channel strategy, partnerships, industry and professional relations, and global communications strategy and implementation. In addition, this role leads global message development and science and diagnostic thought leadership strategies that help shape the reputation of our diagnostics business and our scientific endeavors.
The ideal candidate will have 15+ years of experience in a global healthcare (veterinary &/or human) setting with prior experience supporting global corporate communications. This individual should have a strong understanding of how to make complex information understood & actionable, with experience and confidence navigating urgent, time sensitive projects. They should be confident leading multiple strategies in tandem with other subject matter authorities and leaders and delivering outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee and guide full spectrum of unified corporate communications strategy and planning and execution support, including media relations, M&A, spokesperson preparation and issues management.
Establish and grow reputation through strong knowledge of programs from R&D to commercial, including evolving data, scientific, diagnostic and technology landscape and key stakeholders in relevant areas.
Establish and grow our corporate brand internally and externally
Foster positive relationships with external partners and developing strategies and implementing plans to announce external global partnerships and collaborations
Be a catalyst for opportunities to enhance our corporate brand awareness and share of voice for the overarching communications program; leveraging a strategic plan that capitalizes on business milestones, new data, external partnerships and initiatives.
Establishing collaborative relationships across the organization and externally to foster premier speaking engagements and partnerships with our science, diagnostics, data experts
Amplifying thought leadership and storytelling across executive leadership speaking forums, industry events, digital media, etc. across the Leadership Team and with key subject matter experts
Developing and implementing surround-sound communications strategies and campaigns.
Measuring and analyzing effectiveness of communications approaches and impact on reputation, brand sentiment and codifying standard processes; leading the implementation of strategic or tactical changes to improve outcomes.
Design and lead collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders stablish and lead a disciplined approach to message development, resulting in content, such as an overarching narrative that aligns with our global scientific affairs program and the corporate diagnostics narrative as well as key messaging to inform consistent, milestone-driven communications activities.
Lead global issues management planning and processes
Oversee and guide management of PR agency partner(s) for assigned programs, with the goal of maximizing impact within agreed-upon budgets.
Skills and Experience Required:
Bachelor’s degree in communications or associated area is preferred.
15+ years relevant experience in corporate communications in agency or in-house, ideally in a scientific, medical, med tech, policy, technical ,diagnostics or health field
Exceptional writer with proven ability to process, interpret and communicate complex itm
Deep experience with media relations, writing news releases and briefing materials for executives including briefings, presentation, LinkedIn/Thought Leadership
Experience in social media and web content strategy and be adept at knowing how and when to suggest editorial ideas and provide framework for integration of content across multiple platforms (knowledge of platforms essential)
Proven experience in creating, facilitating and sustaining global external campaign and engagement programs with internal and external stakeholders
Capable of enterprise-wide thinking, leadership and stakeholder perspective-taking
High degree of professionalism, maturity, agility, executive presence, business understanding, organizational awareness and confidentiality
Proven experience managing global advocacy relationships with external thought leaders, academia, and professional societies
Deep experience managing issues and crisis situations
Fluency in English.

The Target Pay Range for this position is $178,200 - $220,000 annually. At Mars, pay decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, education, training and budget.
