VCA Animal Hospitals Animal Care Attendant in Indianapolis, Indiana

VCA West 86th Street Animal Hospital is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Animal Care Attendant to join our team!

The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal welfare, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. As an Animal Care Attendant, you will be responsible for the overall care and well-being of the animals in our facility, ensuring they receive the highest standard of care.

Schedule: This is a full-time opportunity

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide daily care, feeding, and exercise for all animals in the facility.

  • Maintain clean and sanitary conditions in all animal housing areas, including kennels, cages, and common areas.

  • Monitor the health and behavior of animals, reporting any concerns to veterinary staff.

  • Assist with bathing, grooming, and basic medical care as directed by veterinary staff.

  • Administer medications as prescribed and ensure accurate documentation.

  • Provide enrichment and socialization activities for animals to promote mental and physical well-being.

  • Assist with the intake and discharge of animals, ensuring all necessary paperwork and procedures are completed.

  • Communicate effectively with clients, providing information and support regarding the care of their pets.

  • Follow all safety protocols to ensure the well-being of both animals and staff.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.


  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Previous experience in animal care or veterinary setting preferred.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to handle animals safely and compassionately.

  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.

  • Physical ability to perform tasks that involve lifting, bending, and being on your feet for extended periods.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in a veterinary hospital environment with exposure to animal odors, noises, and potential bites or scratches.

  • Must be able to handle the physical demands of the job, including lifting up to 50 pounds.
